UNITE Recap from a Strawberry

Freshly rinsed and feeling plumper than ever, I burst through the double doors of the Delta Hotel to get the crowd of IBOs pumped up for UNITE! Arms are flailing, high-fives are lining up down the hallway, the anticipation building steadily; I could feel the electricity in the air. No one had any clue why I was there, but that was alright. They would soon know the real reason that this crazy Strawberry was waltzing down the hallway.

At last, the venue doors of Terrell Hall open and the event commences, glowing eyes and hopeful aspirations all around from those looking to learn and experience what was truly in-store for them and their business. What knowledge could they grasp onto? How many of my teammates will I see? What cool products will PURE unveil? How could I get the one-up for my business? Being a Strawberry on the outside looking in, I could tell all these cheerful folks were ready to take on the world and I was loving the vibe.

I walk 5 steps to my left and get asked what I was doing here? I told them to come follow me. We frolicked down the hallway to a giant green food truck (my home) where I showed them what items we had on our exclusive UNITE menu…then I busted out the Blender Bike. My prized possession. I had never seen such a complicated look of shock, confusion and giddiness in my entire life on this person’s face.

Next thing you know, boom, I grab a blending vessel filled with a pink liquid from the food truck, attach it to the front of my beloved Blender Bike, and pedal full throttle, sending the pink liquid into a vortex of frothiness. Slowing down, the deed was done. Shake complete. I pour my new friend a small cup of this thick pink blended liquid and WALA…they fell in love.

“This Strawberry Shake is incredible! I’m going to have my friends and team try this too!” History was made in this exact moment. The first-ever IBO had tasted our 360 Complete Strawberry Shake. From this moment on, nothing but sheer chaos ensued in front of my home…I mean food truck.

The first session of speakers had just ended in Terrell Hall and the IBO flood had broken through the double-door levee. Word around town was that 360 Complete Strawberry Shake was available to sample and the flood migrated toward the bright green food truck. To the bike I went!

Equipped with endless strawberry shake mixes and blending vessels, this Strawberry was biking like Lance Armstrong in the Tour de France (before being busted with PEDs) to blend all these shakes. For some reason, people acted like they had never seen a giant Strawberry before, so I was getting photos and videos taken all around me like paparazzi. All in a day’s work!

UNITE Attendees were also asking about our other new flavor on the menu, Limited Edition PURE Perk Salted Caramel! And just how the Strawberry Shake craze started, as did the Salted Caramel coffee bonanza. At this point, we were ready for it! More biking, more blending, more photos, more muscle gains on my Strawberry quads. Again, all in a day’s work.

Once the next session inside Terrell Hall started and everyone already received their Strawberry Shake and Salted Caramel fix, this sneaky little Strawberry snuck backstage. Can you guess what happens next? You could have only been there to get this full experience.

Timeline of events:

  • Discover a bag of event-exclusive T-Shirts.
  • Hear the song, Gangnam Style by PSY blasting through the airwaves.
  • Run out on stage, throw some shirts into the crowd.
  • Jump down the stairs and start running into the crowd.
  • Throw more shirts, give high fives.
  • Dance like no other Strawberry has dared dance before to Gangnam Style.

From this point of the story on, Strawberry was hanging out with his new IBO friends, taking pictures, laughing, hugging, interviewing folks, and everything in between. Both days of UNITE had truly made this Strawberry so excited that I just blush thinking about it (you probably couldn’t tell that I’m blushing, but I am). Not only am I excited about the kind folks I encountered, but the bright future PURE holds as they continue their momentum of freshness and innovation. Hopefully this momentum will continue well past my shelf-life.

So, what is the takeaway from all of this? Being a Strawberry is awesome. So is 360 Complete Strawberry Shake. You know what else is awesome? PURE Perk Salted Caramel. The PURE corporate staff for putting this all together. The speakers and leaders that inspired us all to be the best version of ourselves. The IBOs that dedicated their weekend to coming out to Allen, TX. The entire PURENerium® line launching. The exclusive deals. Rudy from the movie. Damon West. $1,000 cash giveaways. Seeing everyone learn and get involved. And, lastly, watching all IBOs come together and spend quality time together.

Have a healthy Halloween

Halloween is just around the corner, and that means there will be a lot of scary sugar. From parties to trick-or-treating to grocery stores, candy can be found everywhere, and it WILL block your path to Whole Health.

As much as I love M&Ms and candy corn, I know they’re not healthy. The bakery aisle usually tries to compete with their creatively decorated cakes, cookies and cupcakes. Everywhere we turn, there seems to be items just leaping off the shelf and into our grocery cart!

Yes, we buy candy for the adorable trick-of-treaters, yet we always find ourselves mindlessly munching on these tempting treats. If you have children, it’s hard not having sweets in the house. For others, it’s about moderation and keeping it out of sight. For myself, there are parties, festivals and other events that just beg for the attention.

Moderation is key

Halloween is a festive holiday and candy is to be enjoyed, but due to the rising rates of obesity and disease and a lack of vital nutrients in the diet, it’s important to watch your intake of sugar. The American Heart Association states that children and teens (ages 2-18) should limit their added sugars to less than 6 teaspoons per day and no more than 8 fl. oz. of sugary beverages per week. The average American consumes about 355 calories of added sugar a day, or the equivalent of 22.2 teaspoons. That is about triple the recommended amount!1

Don’t stray from your healthy habits

Enjoy Halloween with your children, but carefully plan ahead of time. Teach sensible eating so your kids can make wise decisions when faced with an overwhelming amount of temptations. Also make sure your child gets a well-balanced meal before trick-or-treating; it’ll reduce the urge to snack afterwards.

Don’t be afraid to offer healthy trick-or-treating alternatives! Obesity rates are climbing at an alarmingly high rate; in fact, the prevalence of childhood obesity has increased dramatically. One in every 5 children are obese.2

Healthier and non-food options for trick-or-treating:

  • Organic juice boxes
  • Natural fruit leather
  • Bouncy balls
  • Hair bows
  • 100-calorie pack snacks
  • Granola bars
  • Card games
  • Pencils
  • Bubbles
  • Temporary tattoos
  • Plastic vampire fangs
  • Toy cars
  • Mini packs: Play-Doh, crayon packs, erasers, coloring books

Inspection

I used to always get frustrated when my parents made me wait to eat the candy I collected. They insisted on inspecting it all first. Rule of thumb — if the wrapper looks suspicious, tampered with or you’re not familiar with the brand, toss it! Another wise rule, let your child choose a few pieces of candy to eat on Halloween night and then a few pieces each day after that.

Restriction can often backfire, leading to an obsession with candy. Use this time as an opportunity to teach about healthy, nutritious eating. Combine a miniature snack bar with a piece of fruit and then teach the benefits of the fruit while encouraging healthy eating habits.

Be a healthy host

Finally, Halloween isn’t just for kids. Adults like to attend and host costume parties for friends and families. If hosting, incorporate other fall favorites, such as pumpkin, squash, apples and other fresh produce. Check our PURE’s Pinterest page for some delicious, healthy food choices that all your guests will love!

Words from the wise

I believe teachers make our lives better and wiser. Every day poses an opportunity for a teaching moment, whether we are doing the teaching, or someone is teaching us.

William A. Ward once said, “The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires.” I hope you all had great teachers!

I asked our Independent Business Owners (IBOs) to share the most important thing they ever learned from a mentor/teacher that has truly inspired them in their PURE business. Here are their answers.

  • “Your reason for deciding to commit to the process must be bigger than the rejection that is inevitable. Stay committed to your commitment and never quit. The one and only way you can fail, is if you quit. Fear will paralyze, Faith will promote.. choose FAITH!” – IBO Joshua P.
  • “The speaker, Jim Rohn, once said that successful people do what unsuccessful people are not willing to do; we shouldn’t wish it were easier, but rather wish it were better. This is a daily reminder for me to be better today than I was yesterday.”  – IBO Suzanne H.
  • It’s not about being ready… it’s about being willing.  If you wait until you are ready to change your health, or ready to change your financial situation , or ready to take action to change anything in your life, NOTHING IN YOUR LIFE WILL EVER CHANGE. Be willing, take action, and the rest will come.” – IBO Lynette K.
  • “The biggest influence in my life has been my Dad. He is a football coach and he has always taught me to be positive, work hard, and do what’s right because it’s right.” – IBO Teena S.
  • “This journey should change your life and make you a better person in every way. Commit to becoming better every day and success in this business will find you.” – IBO Joshua P.

Wisdom, indeed. Take these with you on your journey to success with PURE. Go out there and inspire!

Shark Week: You must have a vision

As Shark Week comes to an end, let’s look at one more thing that makes sharks so unique — their incredible senses! They have eight senses, three more than we have, making them super sensitive, so to speak! These are sight, smell, touch, taste, hearing, lateral line (pressure sensors), pit organs and Lorenzini (or electrosenses).

To give you an idea of how incredible their senses are, sharks can amplify light better than night-hunting mammals, they can smell 10,000 times better than humans and they can locate their prey over several hundred meters.1 Now as far as a sense of humor, I would have to argue if they have one!

I think we often take our five senses for granted but think about them for a second and see how crucial they are to achieving success. We’ve talked about the importance of being curious, having agility and setting goals when you lead a team. Using our five senses is about putting these gifts all together and balancing them to maximize success.

  1. Vision: You can’t lead without vision, period. Having a vision pushes you forward, it helps you feel connected to your goal and to others, and it helps you see into the future and what your next actions need to be. “Good business leaders create a vision, articulate the vision, passionately own the vision, and relentlessly drive it to completion.” – Jack Welch
  2. Smell: We don’t just communicate via language or vision. We all have something called pheromones, or chemicals that are emitted by our skin. According to Martha McClintock, University of Chicago, inhaling another person’s sweat, for instance, can affect our emotions and how the brain functions.2 Our smell is the strongest of our senses and it can lead with a great impression as well as an impression after you leave. Our very presence can be powerful. “Smell is the mute sense, the one without words.” – Diane Ackerman
  3. Touch: We touch the lives of our customers, our family and our friends in so many ways. Touching others is about having empathy and the ability to create lasting relationships. “If you want to touch the past, touch a rock. If you want to touch the present touch a flower. If you want to touch the future, touch a life.” – Anonymous
  4. Taste: Have you ever tasted success? Taste is a unique sense and is hard to explain in words. Taste leaves memories, just as food does. Have you seen something done in bad taste? Do you taste your words before you speak them? “A truly elegant taste is generally accompanied with excellency of heart.” – Henry Fielding
  5. Hearing: Are you a good listener? The power of listening is valuable! It is about being tentative and perceptive. It’s also the way we sound. Have you ever heard a speech and felt excited and engaged? What does a good speaker convey and how do they do it? “The most important thing in communication is hearing what isn’t said.” – Peter Drucker

Now that you are sensitized to these wonderful gifts, use them in your daily life. Your ability as a leader depends on them. Identify traits and characteristics of leaders and influencers across the organization and emulate them. However, remember to be uniquely you! Set yourself on the path to becoming everything you can and want to become.

“When you start using the senses you’ve neglected, your reward is to see the world with completely fresh eyes.” – Barbara Sher

Shark Week: Have a voracious curiosity

The Great White shark, a.k.a. “Jaws”, is a very curious creature. They set their minds on what they want, and they usually get it. You may be happy to note that humans are not on their menu. If they take a bite out of someone, it is simply out of curiosity (or self-defense).

Be curious! It benefits leaders greatly as it opens doors and creates possibilities. Like the Great White, we shouldn’t judge nor fear, and we must stay focused. To lead successfully requires finding new solutions, new ways to motivate people and new ways to think. The curious never stop, even when they think they have found a solution. Like the Great White, they are relentless.

Take Steve Jobs, for example, who had an intense focus. He wanted all his products to not only work well, but to be attractive. If you’ve ever watched the documentary, “Steve Jobs: One Last Thing,” you’ll realize that the secret to his success was his curiosity. He had a voracious appetite for learning. He wasn’t afraid of being wrong either, because he knew that was the best way to learn.

Curiosity requires confidence. And, who doesn’t have more confidence than the Great White? Leaders know they don’t have all the answers, and they’re not afraid to admit it. They ask questions constantly, finding out the who, what, how, why and where of everything. Ask the right questions and you’ll stay on track.

So, how can you enhance that spirit of curiosity?

Curious people read a lot. By opening a book, you learn from other people, you see different perspectives and you gain new ideas. Ask yourself what your interests are, then browse books on those subjects. You can also listen to books on tape when you’re driving, or find an interesting podcast or two to follow.

Ask all kinds of questions, even if you think they’re dumb. What you think is dumb may reveal a lot of answers. Ask your customers what their favorite interests and their goals are. This will get you far!

Curiosity – your future depends on it. As for the Great White, its life depends on it.

It’s Shark Week!

Da-Dum…Da-Dum…Da-Dum-Da-Dum-Da-Dum! It’s Shark Week!

Does the mention of sharks send shivers down your spine, or does it send you fishing for information about these incredible creatures? The latter, we hope. The things you can learn from sharks can be invaluable to the success of your PURE business.

Some sharks work in teams, others have great vision, they are all agile, goal oriented, and they are very curious — characteristics of all great industry leaders. An ocean without sharks is a scary place, just as a business without leaders can be frightening. Without sharks, our lives would change, perhaps drastically. For instance, seafood delicacies like scallops would become extinct as sharks eat their predators. Also, sharks have highly developed immune systems, which may lead to preventative treatments for human diseases.

Each day this week, we’re going to dive into the characteristics of sharks and what we can learn from them. Our fincredible lineup starts with the distinctive Hammerhead.

The Hammerhead shark is privy to teamwork! It enjoys traveling in schools, often having up to 500 members! Each group has a social structure that determines dominance according to size, age and sex. Staying in groups may help protect them against larger predators and it increases their chances of finding food.1 These sharks have a connection, so to speak, and they trust each other. The proof is in their numbers.

Teamwork is the most vital skill in any industry. In the July PURE newsletter, Daren Hogge, PURE CEO, shared how success cannot be achieved alone (one is a lonely number). We all have a team behind us, cheering us on. Teamwork really does make the dream work. It promotes a sense of achievement and motivation. It maximizes everyone’s strengths and is complimented by the strengths of others.

The Hammerhead surrounds itself with proficiency, and so should you. Together, the team contributes to the whole. Teams embrace a common vision and common goals. As John C. Maxwell said, “Coming together is a beginning, keeping together is progress and working together is success.”

Teamwork is second nature to the Hammerhead, it should be natural to us, too.

Apollo 11 — it took a village

For me, it was a weekend of nostalgia watching the National Archives film footage of Apollo 11. Born in 1969, I felt American pride for this most celebrated mission. I had goosebumps experiencing this most celebrated mission while listening to the people who worked Mission Control. I could almost feel their nail-biting and uneasiness during that unprecedented day.

Armstrong, Aldrin and Collins are American icons, as were the hundreds of thousands of people working behind the scenes that made this mission possible. The sheer amount of manpower it took to achieve such a remarkable feat of technological innovation was breathtaking! It really did take a village to support the astronauts and make this moment in history.

Think about your PURE business and what it takes to build your community. There is so much we can learn from the Apollo 11 mission that can be applied to our own personal missions.

Be ambitious — Talk about a strong desire to achieve something! The years of training and planning and learning these astronauts went through could not have happened without an incredible desire, determination and longing to achieve success, and they did! Focus on your dreams. What is your purpose, destiny and legacy? Share the products and opportunity with people in your own backyard. Be hungry and the doors to success will open.

“Don’t merely make a living; make a life. Launch out farther than
you’ve ever gone before.” – Buzz Aldrin

Value teamwork — As Armstrong and Aldrin took those famous first steps, Collins was orbiting the moon waiting for his friends’ return. He was part of the larger effort. Everyone had an important job to do and they all worked in alignment. Anchor your business with a strong foundation. Be that person whom you want to attract. Check in frequently with your team members to offer support, educate them and make sure everything is running smoothly.

“We had hundreds of thousands of people all dedicated to doing the perfect job,
and I think they did about as well as anyone could ever have expected.”
– Neil Armstrong

Have confidence — From takeoff, to the precarious moon landing to re-entry, these astronauts had nerves of steel. They believed in themselves and their ability to succeed. They had confidence in the technology and the people behind them. Dare to believe big! Remember that you are strong and capable. Disbelief is negative power whereas belief is positive power.

“Mars is there, waiting to be reached.” – Buzz Aldrin

Learn from your mistakes — It took the failure of Apollo 1, and other errors, to achieve Apollo 11 success. You will make mistakes, and that’s okay. See a learning opportunity in all things. Be sure to listen to your mentor; they’ve been in your footsteps and have made the mistakes before. They are aware of the situations that can trip you up. Attend UNITE where you’ll get valuable training. As a leader, you can empower your team to make better decisions and become the solutions to the problems.

“I think we’re going to the moon because it’s in the nature of the human being to face challenges. It’s by the nature of his deep inner soul…we’re required to do these things just as salmon swim upstream.” – Neil Armstrong

Planning and Communication. You are in the business of growing and developing the skills of your people. Write down the results you want to achieve. Use the tools you have at your disposal and always schedule the next step. Author Judith Glaser said, “Conversations are the power that launches transformational products into the world.” Go out there are start those conversations. That first handshake, greeting, email and call can set the stage for a lifetime!

“We are off! And do we know it, not just because the world is yelling “Lift-off”
in our ears, but because the seats of our pants tell us so! Trust your instruments, not your body, the modern pilot is always told, but this beast is best felt.
Shake, rattle and roll!” – Michael Collins

Recognize each other — At every opportunity the astronauts recognized the efforts of their teammates back on earth. Acknowledge your team’s hard work. Fuel their continued work.

“I guess we all like to be recognized not for one piece of fireworks, but for the ledger of our daily work.” – Neil Armstrong

Just as Apollo 11 mission is an event that is stamped in our minds, so too is the legacy you’ll leave with your PURE business. Go the distance and make that difference.

You have the ability to do more than you can imagine!

Whole Health and our freedom of choice

There’s a famous quote from Winston Churchill that says, “Healthy citizens are the greatest asset any nation can have.”1 We should reflect on this in the United States as we prepare to celebrate our day of independence.

We should think about all the blessings we have been bestowed, and be thankful for the countless freedoms we get to enjoy: the freedom to vote, the freedom of speech and the freedom of religion. We also have the freedom to choose how we care for ourselves and each other.

What does Whole Health look like to you?

Maybe it’s an understanding of how your body functions and responds to the environment. It could simply be a state of mind. Perhaps it means being balanced in all areas of your life … work, exercise, rest, and having a social network, family and friends. At PURE, we are on a mission to deliver Whole Health. One way is by providing products based on the best of science and nature. We believe in the body’s natural ability to heal itself, inside and out, and it all starts with giving the body what it needs.

Everything in our lives is directly affected by how we care for ourselves. We have the freedom to eat what we want, to get proper exercise, to surround ourselves with the right people, to get enough sleep and to avoid stress. It is up to us to make those decisions.

Remember that along with that freedom of choice comes the responsibility to extend that freedom into the lives of others. As a PURE Independent Business Owner, you know what health looks like and how to achieve optimal well-being, and it is your right to share that with others.

Apply Whole Health to your business, too.

To quote Winston Churchill again, “We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give.”

As a servant leader, you lead by lifting others up. You understand that success means putting others needs before yours and helping them perform as highly as possible. It’s that leadership philosophy that we embrace at PURE.

So, as you gather with friends and family this holiday weekend, remember how lucky we are to have the freedom to choose a healthy lifestyle. Share that with the larger community and make an impact.

To help celebrate our freedom, buy one GoYin bottle and get one for only $4 at checkout, now through Friday, July 7, 2019.* A CORE4 product, GoYin can help you balance your mood and stress levels while enhancing your well-being.**
