Ask the Expert answers your questions

At PURE: People United Reaching Everyone, we have an expert team that is dedicated to answering your product and nutrition questions.

Here are the most popular questions from the previous few weeks. You might find a topic related to a question you have.

Q: How long will a PURE Enrollment Pack last?
A: Enrollment packs come in two sizes. The bigger packs contain almost all the products and the small packs also have a large variety. The enrollment packs are designed for people to who want to build their business and to help people become familiar with the products.  It is hard to tell how long the products in a pack will last.  Most of the products are a monthly supply and some of the products are about half of a month’s supply.  Some people choose to not take all of the products together.  Others may choose to share the products. Generally, we expect people will finish most of the products within 6 months.

Q: Are any of your products recommended for someone who wants to gain weight?
A: To increase weight, one should take a good nutritional supplement that has essential vitamins, minerals and other nutrients. A high-quality protein supplement, antioxidants and bioactive compounds should all be a part of the diet. We suggest taking 360 Complete Shake, GPS Energize, Daily Build, GoYin and Acai superfruit.

Q: What products should I take while I’m on a ketogenic diet?
A: We suggest taking 360 Complete Shake as a source of high protein, vitamins and minerals. It contains 21g protein, 11g fiber and low (50g) carbohydrates per serving.

Q: Do any of the products contain strawberry?
A: ENERGY – Watermelon contains strawberry.

Q: Can SleepTrim and CalciuMK+ be taken at the same time since they both benefit sleep?
A: Yes, these products can be taken together. However, they have different mechanisms of working in the body. For best results, we suggest taking SleepTrim with dinner and CalciuMK+ after dinner.

Q: What products should be taken after the 28-Day Detox?
A: We suggest taking Daily Build, GoYin, CalciuMK+, Probiotic and Immune6. These products are basic supplements for daily use. You may take the superfruits, Organic Sulfur, Mila and the GPS line for your more targeted health needs.

Target Digestion – Go with your gut instinct

Every time you eat, you probably don’t think twice about what your digestive system is doing. You enjoy your food and let everything else just happen.

Well, if your gut could talk (and oftentimes we do hear it!) it would likely have a lot to say about the food you’re eating, your state of mind and whether you slept well last night. That’s because our choices have a big impact on the function of our digestion, which, in turn, is critical to our overall well-being.

The conversation your gut would have might look something like this…

“You can partly blame me for your bad mood.”

Bacteria in your intestines may be able to send signals to your brain via neurotransmitters. (See “Clean up your diet” below) According to researchers at the John Hopkins School of Medicine, the phrase “going with your gut instinct” has a literal meaning. They’ve found a connection between digestive issues and mental health, leading them to believe that the gut acts as a second brain. 1

“Relax and stress less.”

Avoiding stress is essential for our well-being. When you’re stressed out, your brain responds in a way that negatively affects your digestion by inhibiting its function. Gut bacteria get out of balance which hinders nutrient absorption … the key function of the gut.

“Feed me probiotics.”

Probiotics are good bacteria that help keep the gut healthy. Bacteria in the gut is necessary for digesting food, absorbing nutrients and water, and killing bad bacteria. The key is to foster a balance of good and bad bacteria with a healthy diet.

Antibiotics can kill good bacteria, so after you’ve finished a course, be sure to eat yogurt or take a probiotic supplement to restore balance. Probiotic by PURE creates an ideal environment for digestion, immune function and absorption of nutrients. Micro-encapsulation of the probiotic species makes them more acid-resistant for maximum utilization and potency. Probiotic contains 8 probiotic species as well as prebiotics.

“Clean up your diet.”

The best foods for gut health include fiber, fermented foods, greens, roughage, fruits and garlic.  Bananas and garlic are good sources of prebiotics, the food that feeds probiotics.

Eating processed foods can decrease the production of neurotransmitters in the gut, like serotonin, so you won’t feel as energized. “Since about 95% of serotonin is produced in your gastrointestinal tract, and your gastrointestinal tract is lined with a hundred million nerve cells, it makes sense that the digestive system affects your emotions.”  (remember that bad mood?) The function of these nerve cells is highly influenced by the billions of “good” bacteria.2

Supplement your diet with Mila which is rich in plant-based fiber and protein. The fiber found in Mila is predominantly soluble fiber which aids in the relief of occasional constipation.*

“Avoid drinking too much alcohol.”

Chronic alcohol consumption can throw the balance of good and bad gut bacteria out of whack.

“When you sleep, I can sleep.”

In studies, sleep deprivation caused subtle changes to gut bacteria and increased the number of bacteria associated with weight gain, obesity, type 2 diabetes and fat metabolism.3

Other products by PURE that help target digestive health.

Daily Detox and HealthTrim Cleanse help detox your body of internal and environmental toxins. Improves digestion and bowel elimination. Daily Detox is used daily whereas HealthTrim Cleanse is used for short-term use every few months. * The premium, ceremonial matcha in Matcha Vegan Shake also helps in healthy digestion and cleansing. Noni superfruit is rich in antioxidants, providing support and promotion of a healthy immune system.

Be good to your gut and it will be good to you.

Spice up your cleansing regimen

Herbs are truly a gift from nature. Not only do they add wonderful flavor to dishes, but they offer many health benefits, including the possibility of cleansing the body of harmful toxins.

Spices like turmeric, oregano, ginger, parsley and black and white pepper may have cleansing properties. Many of them can be grown in your backyard or indoor gardens. Consider coupling these herbs with your PURE 7-Day or 28-Day Detox meals to take advantage of their cleansing benefits.

Turmeric is a plant that comes from the ginger family. It contains a phytochemical substance called curcumin which is yellow in color, and is found in a lot of foods from curry to mustard. Studies suggest that curcumin’s antioxidant properties can support overall health. Daily Build has a Bio-Protection Blend that contains turmeric extract.

Add turmeric to soups, rice dishes, vegetables and chicken dishes. Another nice treat is to add 2 teaspoons turmeric, 1 teaspoon ground ginger and a few drops of stevia sweetener to warmed almond milk.

Oregano is widely used in Italian food. A study in the Journal of Nutrition found that oregano, among other dried culinary herbs, contained very high concentrations of antioxidants. The authors stated that in a normal diet, the intake of herbs may contribute significantly to the total intake of plant antioxidants, and can be an even better source of dietary antioxidants than many other food groups such as fruits, berries, cereals and vegetables.1

Oregano adds flavor to broccoli, tomatoes, mushrooms and potatoes. It tastes great sprinkled on chicken dishes as well.

Ginger is considered by many to be one of the best detoxifying herbs. It has been used medicinally for thousands of years for its antioxidant benefits. In fact, it is used in many cleansing programs. The beneficial portion of the plant is referred to as the rhizome, which is the thick underground stem. Metabolic ONE and HealthTrim® Cleanse contain ginger.

To benefit from this herb, try infusing finely chopped ginger root in boiling water. Add lemon juice and stevia sweetener for a refreshing drink, hot or cold.

Parsley’s unique taste comes from a phytochemical called polyacetylene. This herb contains vitamin C, chlorophyll, beta-carotene, vitamin K and folate, which may be used by the body for detoxification. Finely chop parsley and add it to a salad or use it in pesto. Parsley can also be added to juices or smoothies.

Black and white pepper are great flavor agents. They are made from the Piper-nigrum plant. Black pepper is ground from dried, whole, unripe fruit. White pepper is ground from dried, ripe fruit that has had the outer layer removed. Black pepper may help digestion. Black pepper increases your hydrochloric acid secretion, which is necessary for the digestion of proteins and other foods within the stomach.Daily Build, PURE Café, Green Coffee Bean and Metabolic ONE all contain black pepper extract.

Ask the Expert answers your product questions

At PURE: People United Reaching Everyone, we have an expert team that is dedicated to answering your product and nutrition questions.

Here are the most popular questions from the previous few weeks. You might find a topic related to a question you have.

Q: Which products do not contain stevia?
A: All capsules, GoYin and all superfruit juices do not contain stevia. Ingredients in products by PURE can be found on each product label.

Q: Does Probiotic need to be refrigerated?
A: No, it is not necessary to refrigerate Probiotic.  The probiotic strains in Probiotic remain shelf stable and active without refrigeration.

Q: Is it okay to consume both HealthTrim® Cleanse and Daily Detox at the same time?
A: Yes, these products can be taken together. Or you can use Daily Detox as a natural bridge between HealthTrim Cleanse cycles.

Q: I had an allergic reaction to sulfa a year ago. Does this mean I will have a reaction to Organic Sulfur?
A: Sulfa is a type of pharmaceutical drug that contains sulfonamides. Sulfonamides are compounds that contain nitrogen, hydrogen, oxygen, and the sulfur they take their name from. Sulfur is a chemical that is extremely small and unlikely to cause allergic reactions on its own, unlike sulfonamides. MSM has been used as a dietary supplement for years with no reports of intolerance or allergic reaction.

Q: Does PURE have a product to help with unhealthy gums?
A: Unhealthy gums may be the result of a microbial infection or a lack of vitamins. We suggest taking Silver every day and taking Daily Build for nutritive support. Please note that products by PURE are nutritional supplements and are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.*

Q: The labels on Goji, GoYin, Mangosteen and Noni state they contain sugar; however, the product information says they contain no sugar.
A: Superfruits naturally contain sugar which is what you see on the label; however, these products contain no added sugars.

Q: It was suggested that consumption of Probiotic be stopped while taking antibiotics. Why?
A: You can take Probiotic on the same day you start taking an antibiotic, but not at the same time. A quick rule of thumb is to take Probiotic two hours before or two hours after taking your antibiotic. This will give sufficient time for the antibiotic to work while not killing off the beneficial bacteria.

Q: Why doesn’t Daily Build contain iron? And, does calcium help your body retain and use iron?
A: Iron is an active oxidation reduction metal and when it’s in a complex product, it will actively react with other ingredients. This may cause the product to be unstable. Calcium will inhibit iron absorption so we don’t suggest consuming it with iron.

Q: Is there anything in GPS Hydrate that is stimulating?
A: GPS Hydrate contains adaptogens that might give someone more energy. Taking it around noon may provide enough energy to get you through the afternoon, yet not disturb your sleep.

Q: Which products contain BCAAs and how much?
A: BCAA is an abbreviation for branched chain amino acid. It includes three amino acids: leucine, isoleucine and valine. Please check the product label for these ingredients. GPS products that contain BCAAs include GPS Rebuild (from protein sources and leucine 1838mg, isoleucine 1115mg, valine 1070mg), GPS Circulate (Leucine 500mg, Isoleucine 250mg, Valine 250mg per serving of 15g) and GPS Energize (leucine 300mg, isoleucine 150mg and valine 150mg per serving of 10g).

Say “boo” to bad bacteria

Our digestive system can be a scary place, filled with trillions of bacteria fighting over who rules the gut. Those bacteria are responsible for how food is broken down in our GI tract and how efficiently nutrients are absorbed. Most of our immune system lives in our GI tract, so it’s very important to keep this area healthy.

There are good bacteria and bad bacteria. Good bacteria protect us, whereas bad bacteria release toxins that can hurt us. Bad bacteria can come from the food we eat, environmental toxins and everyday stress. For a healthy system, you always want more good than bad. But how do you keep the bacteria in check?

A balancing act

Probiotics, otherwise known as good bacteria, are microorganisms that help create a healthy bacterial balance in the gut. They help boost the immune system, improve cognitive and cardiovascular health, and promote a healthy inflammatory response in the GI tract.

Our bodies create probiotics naturally, to some degree. We can eat fiber-rich foods that nourish good bacteria, things like greens, bananas and artichokes. You can also supplement with a high-quality probiotic product, like Probiotic by PURE. On the other hand, consuming a lot of sugar and fat feed bad bacteria, so it’s smart to avoid those.

Probiotic by PURE

Not all probiotic supplements get the job done efficiently. Probiotic is unique in that it microencapsulates the “good” bacteria preventing them from getting destroyed on their journey to the gut. The digestive system starts in your mouth, so probiotics have a long way to go before they enter the GI tract. Along that route, many are often lost or damaged, but this new formulation ensures they are all released where they need to be — in the lower digestive tract.

Probiotic contains eight species of probiotics (listed below). Other probiotic supplements on the market may contain more species, but many are destroyed by the harmful acid in the stomach.

  • Lactobacillus acidophilus
  • Lactobacillus plantarum
  • Lactobacillus salivarius
  • Lactococcus lactis
  • Streptococcus thermophilus
  • Bifidobacterium bifidum
  • Bifidobacterium lactus
  • Bifidobacterium longum

Probiotic contains a new strain of bacteria, B longum, that provides immune and digestive system maintenance and supports intestinal regularity.* Probiotic also contains two prebiotics, non-digestible fibers that nourish the growth of probiotics in the lower digestive tract. Together they create the ideal environment.

Individuals age 12 and older can take 2 Probiotic capsules daily, preferably on an empty stomach, before breakfast and before dinner. Children 4 to 11 years of age can take the contents of 1 Probiotic capsule daily.

Probiotic:

  • Supports good digestion*
  • Promotes a healthy immune system*
  • Encourages a balance of gut bacteria*
  • Helps prevent overgrowth of yeasts*
  • Acid-resistant probiotic for maximum absorbency*
  • Assists with nutrient absorption*
  • Contains 8 probiotic species

Support a healthy inflammatory response

In addition to ensuring more ‘good’ bacteria, you also want to help the body rid itself of toxins. Our new Daily Detox supplement cleanses your body every day of internal and environmental toxins. This gentle blend of botanicals improves digestion and bowel elimination while increasing vitality and enhancing immunity.* It is created for daily use and as a natural bridge between HealthTrim® Cleanse cycles.

Individuals 18 years and older can take 2 Daily Detox capsules in the morning, preferably with food.

  • Balances the channels of elimination
  • Supports a healthy inflammatory response
  • Helps maintain a healthy cardiovascular system*
  • Neutralizes damaging free radicals
  • Provides nutritional support for the liver

Get that good gut feeling

Your gut doesn’t have to be a scary place. Do your body a favor by adding Probiotic and Daily Detox to your everyday regimen. A healthy gut can increase your immunity and allow your body to efficiently absorb nutrients so you can benefit from all the products by PURE, maximizing YOU as an individual.

At PURE: People United Reaching Everyone, we have an expert team that is dedicated to answering your product and nutrition questions.

Here are the most popular questions from the previous few weeks. You might find a topic related to a question you have.

Q: Does Probiotic contain yeast?  A: Probiotic is a product that contains seven strains of good bacteria essential to our health. It does not contain yeast.

Q: My sister is really interested in your products for her family. However, she has an allergy to apples. Occasional exposure has not caused a reaction but she’s wondering about the amount in Daily Build and GoYin A: People who are allergic to pollen might be allergic to some raw fruits including apples. The body mistakenly recognizes the protein in pollen as fruits.  Also, some people have an allergy to apples but are not allergic to apple juice.  Daily Build and GoYin are wonderful liquid supplements. The apple juice they contain is different from raw apple, and the amount is minimal.

Q: Is there any wheat in any of the products?  A: We do not use wheat in our products.

Q: Where does the energy in Greens come from?  A: Greens contains many plants that provide plenty of nutrients and adaptogens for energy and body metabolism.  It also contains antioxidants that help the body deal with daily stress and environmental contamination.

Q: Are there any enzymes in the Daily Build?  A: Daily Build does not contain enzymes.

Are the change in seasons putting a damper on your immune health?

Sometimes the transition between summer and fall puts added stress on our immune system and bodies. Your body is constantly out of balance, trying to navigate a fine line between internal and external challenges. Walk that line more confidently with the right nutrition. We all know how beneficial vitamins and minerals are for us, but do you know which are the best and most readily available?

We’ve compiled a list of five immune-boosting foods to help keep you happy and healthy during the fall and winter months.

Seeds and Nuts — Zinc is an essential mineral that helps support healthy immune function, but it’s not stored by the body. Consuming nuts and seeds is a great way to boost your intake. A quarter cup of raw pumpkin seeds contains 2.57 mg of zinc. The Recommended Daily Allowance (RDAs) for zinc for adults is 8-11mg. Daily Build contains 20mg of zinc per serving, and CalciuMK+ contains 7.5mg zinc per serving.

Mushrooms — Surround yourself with fungus, mushrooms that is. All mushrooms contain beta-glucan, a naturally occurring polysaccharide. Studies suggest that beta-glucan might stimulate the immune system.1 Oyster and portabella mushrooms are good choices. Add mushrooms to stir-fry or pasta dishes. Greens contains an organic mushroom blend of shitake, maitake and reishi varieties — all good sources of beta-glucan. GoYin contains Coriolus versicolor mushroom, another great source of beta-glucans.

Fruits and Vegetables — Vitamins A, C, and E are particularly helpful in supporting immunity. Foods rich in vitamin A include carrots, dark leafy greens and sweet potatoes. Vitamin C can be found in citrus fruits, tomatoes, and bell peppers. Dark leafy greens, butternut squash and avocado are excellent sources of vitamin E. Pairing these and other fruits and vegetables with adequate protein intake will help supercharge your immunity. Immune6 is an excellent source of vitamin C, as well as vitamin D3. Daily Build contains 446% vitamin E in each serving, as well as over 600% vitamin C. GPS Adapt contains 200% vitamin C. CalciuMK+ is a great source of both vitamin A, D and E.

Garlic — Garlic contains allicin, a component that has antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral properties, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center. A review published in the February 2009 issue of “Bioscience, Biotechnology and Biochemistry” notes that allicin has a variety of antimicrobial properties.2

Probiotics — Probiotics have specific compounds that may help regulate the functions of immune cells and intestinal cells.3 Probiotic is uniquely formulated with seven different types of beneficial bacterial strains of healthy bacteria to support digestive health. Additionally, Probiotic contains beneficial prebiotics to help foster the growth of good bacteria, setting it apart from other products on the market.

To help maintain a health immune function, it’s always important to exercise regularly, get adequate sleep and visit your healthcare provider, in addition to eating a balanced diet. Follow these guidelines and you’ll be on your way to a lifestyle of Whole Health.
